The Island of Arran is the most southerly of the Scottish
western isles and as such is one of the most accessible.
The island is about 20 miles long and 10 miles wide, lies
15 miles off the Ayrshire coast with a local population is around 5,000.
The car ferry from Ardossan takes 55 minutes to cross, or you can
charter a helicopter which takes just 10 minutes.
Arran is known as "Scotland in minature", mainly
because of its high rugged peaks to the north and low fertile lands to the
south. It is also an area of exceptional beauty with a rich Scottish culture and
provides a wide variety of activities, from hill walking to "still shopping". It
is a horse enthusiasts paradise with trekking and riding centres and
miles of forest trails and deserted beaches.
Accommodation on the island consists of self-catering
houses, chalets, 5 star hotels, private lodges, comfortable guest houses, bunk
houses and youth hostels. We have the only horse B&B on the island, so if
you are bringing your equestrian friend, remember to book in advance.
Check our LINKS page and use the tourist guide
sites for more information on the islands facilities.
